No matter where you go, there you are.
These are words of wisdom. One can be in what is purported to be the most lush, beautiful,exotic, tranquil, energetic or whatever superlative adjective a travel agent can add to it sell a ticket, does not make it any more or less to the observer.
I have sailed into ports that some pay $3000 just to dock at for 8 hours and been treated with either gracious hospitality or loaded weapons and orders to show papers or documents.
The real beauty is inside you, the observation of the area is subject to your perspectives.
Having said that, I would say that Barbados is pretty. Cuba is awe inspiring. Panama is very pretty. Mexico is sweet.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Alaska, Taiwan, Nepal, Ivory Coast, pick one, any one, do not expect beauty, create the beauty. Do not expect exotic, create the exotic.
Choice is yours, it always has been.

Would depend on how much money you can aford to spend. For a great reasonable time I would pick Vietnam. It is exotic, friendly, good food and great priced hotels. The expensive part of the holiday is the plane tickets, unless you live close to there.
