Doesn't everything give us cancer? From what all these studies and things show, we should all just be falling over dead. I once heard that cinnamon gum gives you cancer. Whatever...

There has been one report that parabens, which is an ingredient in many cosmetics/deodorants, causes breast cancer by migrating in to the breast tissue. This was based on the fact that doctors discovered tumors in certain women that had highers than normal levels of paraben in them. But these studies and claims have not been verified by the science community at large, and paraben is considered to be completely safe, non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic from all that major scientific studies.

The studies on Aluminum, and the Aluminum compounds popular in many antiperspirants, are less reassuring, though not because they are linked to cancer. Aluminum is a neurotoxin (it can cross the blood-brain barrier, making it especially dangerous). Alzheimer's patients have a higher concentration of Aluminum in their brain tissue, although no formal causal link has been confirmed. The variants of Aluminum salts used in antiperspirants, however, have had adverse affects on animals when applied to them.

Antiperspirants are a type of deodorant, which prevent sweating. Deodorants themselves (without antiperspirant properties) seek to prevent bacterial growth under the armpits, which is what is actually responsible for the majority of the smell of sweat. They also usually have a scent in an attempt to mask the odor.

If you are that worried about it and want to be super cautious, opt for deodorants that are not antiperspirants (do not contain Aluminum salts), and are free of parabens (many natural brands of products are paraben free, I'm sure you could easily find one). I wouldn't worry too much about it though, since the solid evidence just isn't there.

Yes and no, in the end everything will give you cancer. I had a friend who lived as healthy as anyone I know, was a vegan ate organic food, and exercised frequently. He still ended up with cancer.

My friend heard that deodorant gave you cancer so she went without, I'll tell you, it's not worth it. They thought that aluminum in the anti-perspirant would give you cancer, but you sweat it out so it is not staying in your pores. Plus you have to ingest a lot of aluminum for it to effect you. So my suggestion is to keep using the anti-perspirant deodorant, but if you are really worried about it and won't mind being stinky, get the deodorant that isn't an anti-perspirant.

Yes, I heard, because the deoderant blocks your pores (which stops you from sweating) and is supposed to cause cancer. Just relax, because there are deoderants that are actually good for you. A good deoderant is Tom's all natural, it's cancer-causing-free, and it smells oh so good

There are ingredients in deodorants (aluminium) which are carcinogens. You won't necessarily get cancer from using deodorants, but I believe that what is natural is better for your body in any case.

I use natural deodorants - I get mine at Wild Oats (similar to Whole Foods, but smaller) and it has cedar and with hazel. J/A/S/O/N brand is pretty good, too.

My friend doesn't even buy deodorants; he uses the juice of a lemon or lime. Squeeze the juice from a wedge of lemon into your hand, and apply to your underarm. Don't do it right after shaving - it stings! Also, once you put on the lime, air dry a bit.

I've used the lemon trick when I've been out dancing and I realized I forgot to put on deodorant and was starting to get stinky. It really works.

OK there are anti-presperiants and there's deodorants. The anti-presperiants are the ones that suppose to give you breast cancer. Evidently the anti's get into the lymph nodes which are located just under your pits and all those chemicals go to work. The deodorants are OK to use,

I heard it was anti-perspirants that give you cancer. I don't want to get cancer, but I don't want to stink either and you can get cancer from so many things now a little anti-perspirant most likely won't kill you.

All the people that ride the train in the morning must think the same way...and they STINK!!!!

We're all going to die, some of us will die smelling clean, others will die smelling like skunks. Get some deodorant and don't read so much.
