Well, They deduct taxes from your salary on every paycheck. In january you file your taxes and you get deductions off of your total income,depending on if you file single,married,etc. Then, if you paid too much toward your taxes you get a refund. Too little, then you owe them the xtra money. If you get a refund you get only one per year.

I am fairly sure this only happens when you actually file the taxes.
Just have good and thorough documentation of the deductions

final 2 weeks of februrary typically.. and after you file expect 4-7 weeks

Tax deductions are things that aren't taxed...like children...when you get your tax deductions is whenever you start having children.
