It's not always pretty, and it could be better, but I'll take this mess over some versions of regimented authoritarian uniformity, or a "tolerance" that goes beyond all reasonable bounds and insists that "everyone is right and no-one must be criticised"
(Including the child-sacrificers and cannibals, presumably!)

There are types of tolerance, and sometimes they get confused. Everyone's opinions are not equally right, or equally well thought out. That can be challenged and discussed.
But the tolerance of people as people, and their right in general to hold any particular opinion*, that's a different thing.

(*I could probably suggest some opinions that should not be tolerated, at the extreme. That too is an interesting issue)

The PARTICIAPANTS (at least MOST of them) here are FAR more TOLERANT than Yahoo.

That includes most Muslims, Christians, Jews, Athiests, Hindus, Buddists and Agnostics.

Anyone disagree with that!

I certainly hope not. However, you can't expect that all people will be able to discuss a topic like religion. Many religions are based entirely on faith, beliefs, not facts. When questioned as to their authority, they can only point to sacred writings that they have been told are authoritative. They have no empirical evidence and hence probably feel vulnerable and feel a need to get defensive about their beliefs.

It has certainly occurred to me that those that result to name calling have little to support their point of view, be it religious or political.

No, because I tolerate this question. I tolerate other people views, as long as they are not ignorant of other beliefs. It is the hard liners that make everyone angry because they preach but do not care for anyone else's beliefs.
My motto is: "Live it, don't preach it."

Yup. Seems people were nicer a few weeks back. Maybe Tolerance got sick of us ranting and moved to the Gay and Lesbian section.

No - I see many proponents for tolerance and unity on this forum. More everyday in fact.

Peace!

I don't think so, this is a religious forum and it sounds about as I would expect it to.

I think so, a long time ago, I don't think I ever saw tolerance here, so it must have been before my time.

Yahoo!'s Violation system isn't strict, it's just messed up. Make a complaint to Yahoo! if you feel you have been violated in error.

More like dragged itself out of it and tried to find a better place. Who knows if it survived to find it.
