we put our cat in luke warm water (in the bath tub) and it seemed to work... or it just kept her busy grooming and drying herself off so she kept quiet. lol. I wouldn't suggest ice cold water though, You might give it quite a shock.

No, this is not true! Please don't put your cat in cold water; you could make her very sick!
Be sure to keep her indoors until she is spayed - being in heat, she could wander out and be hit by a car. Your vet will tell you how long to keep her in after while she recovers from surgery - some vets say a week.
The only thing that stops the howling that cats in heat make is getting them spayed. Meantime, be patient - she is your friend for life, and she won't act this way after she's fixed.

I don't know if this is true or not but I would avoid putting your cat in cold water. Cats are like humans, they need to maintain a certain body temp or they can die. Cats can get hypothermia too.

Putting your cat in cold water will not help. It will just make her cold, wet and possibly sick. She needs to be fixed by the vet honey.

Completely not true. "Heat" is the name we give the "menstural" cycle in animals. It means they are able to become pregnant. Cold water will only make her VERY upset and possibly sick.

She needs to be fixed/spayed.

It doesn't sound true, but if it is i don't think the effects would last permanently anyways. Poor Kitty.
