one closet door as well as the entrance door.

It is now beige, want either a dark red or green, so..... also, do I need two coats? I have painted, (as maintenance at a college) but never had to estimate the amount needed. We just coated it once and went on to the next room.

I know this one, I sell paint and have heard many disaster stories of people trying to paint dark colors, esp. reds.
1. Please get a primer tinted a lighter color of your chosen dark color. If you are getting red, order a light red tint. If you are doing green, order light green. Some use a gray primer but you won't necessarily get the total "color" you picked out in the first place.
2. With your dimensions, you could possibly get away with 1 gallon if you do one coat but I strongly suggest you go with 2 gallons and at least 2 coats with a dark color.(A gallon will cover "up to" 400 sq. ft.) I always recommend to my customers that if there is alot of leftover paint, you could always stir in some white paint or black tint (your paint store should accomodate you) and change the shade to use it on your trim or mabe some accessories in the room.
3. If you want to try to get away with one gallon, get one gallon, but save the formula (if you get it mixed at a paint dept) so that if you need more, it will be easily done.
4. Painting takes patience and for a great job done right, don't get the cheapest paint you can find. It is priced cheap for a reason. You will only get what you pay for. Do it right the first time and you won't have to spend the extra $ later trying to fix it!
5. TIPS: - when using a roller, lightly dampen it before initial use to prevent it from soaking all the water out of your paint when you do your first strokes into the pan and on the wall.
- use the right brush for the paint. Good quality paint will be thick and therefore needs a good quality brush to hold this paint and not cause streaks.

I hope this helps and makes your project successful!!

Do yourself a favor and tint your primer to a gray and at least 2 top coats of whatever dark color you've chosen, reds are real tough to get the fullness of the color, it's taken me as many as 7 coats to achieve and I've been doing this for 30 yrs and no I don't use cheap paint !!! Prime and one finish coat before you do your ceiling and if you haven't achieved the fullness of your color then wait again before you do your ceiling, you want to be able to paint ceiling and then your last finish coat on your wall. 1 gal primer, 1 gal. flat ceiling paint and start with 2 gals. of your color in an egg shell finish, this way it's durable to be washed but won't show all the sins in your walls, good luck

You have approx. 384 sq feet of wall. one gal. usually covers 400 sq ft. You will definitely need two coats going from a light color to a dark color....
