why not stop this worry before it is too late, and renew your passport now. take to your nearest passport office and get it renewed there, inform them of your travel date, show them the tickets and any other ID they may need, and with any luck they will be able to issue you your new passort on the same day.
better still contact the london US embassy at: http://www.usembassy.org.uk
or do as i di for you, see the extract below from:

good luck. I hope that helps.

You need at least 6 months left on your passport from the date you are due to return (i.e. the date of your return ticket) otherwise you cannot travel - if it's January 24th you are travelling you will probably have to go to a passport office to get a new one in time - give them a call (number is on the website) and find out your nearest office - or get an application from the post office as the online service will not be quick enough. Good luck and remember that your travel insurance will not cover cancellation for that reason :(

Well, if your passport expires in May and you're going in February shouldn't you be fine? It's still valid for another month after you travel. And you only need a passport if you are flying across the border. I just got my own passport and it is not true that you need 6 months left on your passport. Absolutely false. Mine expired a month after I returned from my honeymoon and I was still able to get on the plane.

If your passport is valid until May 2007 then you shouldn't have any problem traveling into the U.S. on January 24, 2007. Even if it expired while you were here, they wouldn't stop you from leaving (you just wouldn't be able to get back in). Just in case, bring along a copy of your birth certificate and driver's license (if you have one). And enjoy your trip here!!

It needs to still have six months on it after the date you come back (so, if you come back in Feb, it needs to be valid until August). The US customs and p[assport control have every right to refuse you entry at the gate, so I recommend you hotfoot it to your nearest passport office and get them to renew your passport asap (like, tomorrow!)
