Most states have their own filing website that is free, do not pay a fee to e-file, there are many websites that are subsidized by the IRS to provide free filing.

It depends what state you are in. Some states require that you file the state return at the same time as the federal.

Check your state website. Many states have a link there to efile.

In my state it is. It doesn't matter when you do it, it is going to two different places. As long as it is done before April 15th, you are fine!
