I'd like to go to Puerto Rico within the year. Which are the best hotels in the San Juan area? I don't want to spend huge amounts of money because I don't plan on spending too much time in the hotel, but I don't want to stay in a crappy one either. Somewhere in between is good.

My choice is the Caribe Hilton is beautiful hotel between the Condado area and Old San Juan (in Puerta de Tierra area). The Hotel have a private beach, nice pools and amenities and believe me a small castle. Check for offers because the rates varies from season to season. If you want to stay in the hearth of the Colonial Old San Juan, the Hotel El Convento is the place. I will also recommended the Marriott Hotels in Condado and Isla Verde(very close to the airport). If you want a make a research check in the Condado and Isla Verde area.
Note: Dorado is not in the Metropolitan Area of San Juan.
