We have two types of 9mm pistols currently in use in the Navy. The first and most widely used is the Beretta 9mm, the second is the Sig Sauer 9mm and unless you are going into an aviation field, you may never see the Sig.

Danigurl, the SigSaur is also used by CID(Command Investigations) because it's compact and can be put in a back holster. The Navy uses the Baretta 92FR 9mm pistol.

I dont think you even have to qual with a pistol in basic. Rifle only. One you are in the fleet you might have to do pistol qual. But for basic I am about 90% sure theres no pistol qual. (Navy). I know the Marines dont for sure.not in basic anyway.

When I went through it was a .45 converted to fire the .22 It was more accurate if you THREW it than actually fired it.
