I've posted relatively benign satirical questions (such as 'what other furniture, besides wicca chairs, do wiccans make' and 'besides pie allah mode, what is your favorite muslim dish' and 'do you love jesus (and his brothers, pedro and jose)') and I've received violation notices along with email from fundies. I've questioned people who claim to be witches and mediums and they get INCREDIBLY angry, just like the fundamentalist christians and muslims do. Even some of my atheistic friends are extremely sensitive when I question their dogma. What's the dynamic here?

Note: every belief and thought system can become dogmatic and fundamentalist to those who too-closely identify with it. Wiccan fundamentalists are just as rigid as christian fundamentalists, despite the protests. And secular fundamentalists are the same -- rigidly dogmatic. I've had mediums and wiccans on here get very angry when I exposed their obvious fundie dynamics and the level of delusion was the same as christian fundies.

Wiccan Fundies? Really?

These people are not the norm, but they comprise a measurable minority. Obviously if someone is really just looking for an opportunity to argue, that's bad, but that does not typify them. These people have very concrete beliefs, and things that other people do with those beliefs honestly offends these people, and they speak out about it. There is a lot of logic as to why they view their version of Wicca is correct and other versions should not be called Wicca. (I disagree with them, but I don't find them illogical) And while I am an eclectic Wiccan, I despise what some Wiccans do with ancient gods and goddesses, shoehorning them into a Wiccan format (or more often, into their own make believe system they call Wicca) without any respect as to who those deities are or where they come from. It's disrespectful to both the indigenous cultures from which they come and to the gods themselves. All goddesses are NOT moon goddesses. They just aren't. Claiming otherwise makes you either ignorant or a liar. So I actually support some of what you describe.

There are angry fundamentalists in every faith (contrary to Nuthnbett's statement that it's against Wiccan beliefs). Traditional Wiccans can sometimes be the most unyielding. And most Asatru that I'm associated with can be very stuck on their own belief system.

The problem you are facing is not so much their fundamental beliefs but their lack of a sense of humor. Obviously, they just don't get it. Sorry.

I remember your joke about Wicca chairs. Even though I am a pagan/wiccan I thought it was funny. I guess I don't speak for everyone.

EDIT: However, I was just on an Atheist forum and was rolled in with the few pagan and wiccans that have a broom up their ***. There are idiots everywhere you go in every belief. Atheism, Paganism, Christianity, Islam etc. We are all human. There are always going to be ***holes.

I do get sensitive when my God is bashed and I am bashed for believing in Him. My belief is a personal choice, just as an Atheist has made a personal choice not to believe; and they do not deserve to be bashed either. I worry about their soul and where they will spend eternity, but I know I cannot FORCE them to make a choice for God. Btw, I thought the jokes after your question were very funny!

Not angry, but just thought I should point out the fact that there is no such thing as a "fundamentalist" Wiccan. Fundamentalists believe their way is the only way and that is in direct opposition to Wiccan beliefs.

That seems to be a prime characteristic of all fundamentalisms: A total lack of a sense of humor and a tendemcy to take anything literally.

People in general don't like to be ridiculed or to feel that they are being made fun of.

I don't get it either, but I appreciate your sense of humor. I think those questions are pretty funny.
