Male dogs urinate on surfaces to mark their territory. It has been said that they lift their leg to bring the scent to a higher level (closer to nose level) so that it will not be missed by other dogs. The production of Testosterone induces marking behavior and other male dog qualities. Most dogs will begin this behavior sometime between six to twelve months of age. Neutered dogs are more likely to squat to urinate than intact males.

He might when he gets a little older. My female ****-a-poo used to pee lifting her leg until she was about 3 months. Some things they learn from other dogs, and some things are instinct. I think he'll realize when he starts going on himself.

Well, just because a dog is a boy it doesn't mean he has to pee with his leg up I have a two year old golden retriever who pees without his leg up.Usually males only pee with there legs up when they're marking territory.

Most male dogs do not start lifting their legs until about 6 to 7 months, he will do it when he is ready nothing you can to do to speed it along.

Because he is a baby. Leg lifting won't start until sexual maturity sets in, usually around 8-12 months.

Well, could be a girl. Or might not have developed his sense of balance yet. I'm not real sure at what point male dogs start lifting their legs.

he is still a baby
another thing is, he might do it when his testicles strat to descend into his scrotum. or maybe later when he nears sexual maturity at about 10 months of age.
some dogs never do it though. It also something that they imiitate or something that is learnt through observing other dogs.
I have two males and a *****. the older male squats and so when i got the younger one, he gre up seeing the older one squat too. so he still doesnt raise a leg (rarely)........
so dont worry about it. my vet had a great dane who never raised his leg.
Your dog might also not raise his leg if he is a crypo or a monorchid (single testicle descended into the sac or no testicle descended into the sac)...........this results in low hormone production.

Because his little leg lifting hormones have not kicked in yet. They will, and he will pee like a male them. It is no reflection on your pup, that's just how dogs are.

They will do that when they get older and have the co-ordination to stand on three legs and pee at the same time.
He's a male after all. sounds like walking and chewing gum at the same time, doesn't it?!

I've heard some dogs won't get the hang of it until they see another, older dog do so. I'm not sure if that's true, it's just a thought.
Don't forget to get him nuetered as soon as you can! You don't want to be a grandparent.
