My husband's ex-wife and their three adult children's mother/grandmother has died of cancer. I would like to pay my respects properly and send them (ex-wife and children) a condolences card. I wish to learn the appropriate words to say to them. I don't want to make the text too short nor too long. What would be sufficient?
Please, I search for serious responses. Thanks.

The mere fact that you say anything will speak volumes. I'd just keep it short and simple. Get some nice stationary.
Dear so and so,

I wanted to let you know that I am sorry for your loss and that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,

Your Name.

If you want extra points you could bake them a casserole.

I would think that a simple " My sincerest condoloences on the loss of your mother and grandmother" would suffice.

if you have a good relationship with your husband's ex, then you can make it more personal, if not, a general condolence is fine.

Paying your respects to them is really not any different that anyone else. Tell them what you would tell another family member or close friend that lost their mother/grandmother.

"You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult period in your lives." or something similar.
