I have noticed most websites warn you that if you have suffered from SH in the past reading about it can make you want to do it again. Why does reading about it make you want to do it? I have been on other websites for anorexia, drug dependence & alcoholism but none carry a similar warning

This is one of the warnings
Please try to make yourself safe before proceeding; some of these pages contain material that may temporarily intensify the urge to self-harm in some people.

I obviously haven't worded my question very well. These aren't disclaimers like on the pro-anna sites. There is actually something that triggers when reading about SH that makes ppl that have done it before want to do it again

I honestly dont know. I self harm and it doesn't stop me. You get a feel good factor about hurting yourself and you don't feel the pain. Nothing will stop you from doing it certainly not a warning...

Its probably mainly to cover themselves incase anyone causes serious injury or even death after reading their site.

But also I think it could be linked in the fact that self harm gives the sufferer the same emotional and physical release as that experianced by a drug user / alcoholic and the rush or high achieved is addictive. Therefore talking about it or looking at pictures whatever produces an urge to do it.

When you are addicted to something being around it or faced with it makes the temptation to lapse back into those habits very difficult.

I do not know why other websites do not have it, that is probably something legal as well. Although I think its good that these self harm websites do have it I doubt the warnings are actually going to stop anyone who wants to do it.

Its no longer undesirable to look. I understand the interest, in basic terms be certain you are not getting sucked in or initiate some risky behavior. attain out and refer to somebody, even a great chum, yet do no longer motel to self harm <3

i think they might have meant doing the self harm stuff, not reading about it, but i might be wrong. but i think it will make you want to do it again because when you hurt yourself on purpose, your body releases some chemicals or something and it takes pain away from other places. im not quite sure though

Surely it makes sense to warn people not to harm themselves. Particularly if they have been vulnerable to it in the past. Sites shouldn't glorify any kind of self harm.
