the cat doesn't have any fleas. they are strictly house cats, and they don't have fleas. however the worms do look like rice. i called the vet and i am going to take her in. suprisingly she is very upbeat and playful..you wouldn't tell she is sick

Your cat has worms. When I got my puppy, I saw little white things crawling out her butt. So I got a stool sample, and took her to the vet. My vet said she had tape worms. They look like little grains of rice. My vet just gave her a shot and I was on my way. The shot was under $10.00. So you need to get a fresh stool sample from your cat, maybe a few hours or earlier before you go to the vet. Your cat will get a shot and that will be it. Your cat will be fine. If you have other animals maybe you should get a stool sample from them too, and have your vet check it.

If you have a kitten and it has NOT been wormed, then it HAS worms. All kittens have worms that they get from the mother. They can also have tapeworms, that look like rice and come out of the anus. These usually come from fleas. If the kitten had fleas, it probably had tapeworm as well as the usual roundworms. You need to take it to the vet for worming and vaccines. That is what responsible pet ownership is about!!!

Good for you for calling your vet! The "rice" may be cat tapeworms, which your vet can cure. The runny stool sounds worrisome, so be sure to tell your vet about that. Roundworms (different from tapeworms) and other parasites often can't be seen in the stool, and can truly be life-threatening.

Be sure to get your kitty spayed when she's old enough (usually vets say 5 months is a good age - but recommendations differ) and get her 3-in-1 shots as recommended by your vet.

First off, the white things coming out of your cat are tape worms. Regular wormers do not take care of tape worms, only round rooms and hook worms. You need to get a pill from your vet called Droncit. For a cat, 1/2 pill should be sufficient. The droncit breaks down the protective coating of a tape worm so that they die. Cats get these mostly from cleaning themselves so they can possibly come back. Remember you must get this medication from a vet, it is not sold over-the-counter, it is a prescription.

Also, all kittens (& puppies) have worms. You can treat them for those kinds of worms with over the counter medication. They should be treated according to package directions.

You can't really tell by fecal matter unless you collect it and take it to the vet where a tech can look at it under a microscope to determine what type of worm. If you can't afford a vet, try a course of over the counter wormer you can get at the store. If you still see the white things after that, definately need to get to a vet. Sorry it can be expensive to own an animal, but it has to be done. Can't let the animal suffer.

Call the vet right away. They are going to want you to bring in a sample so they can test it and see what kind of worms she has and treat her accordingly.

You can get worm meds at most pet stores, but they are not nearly as good as what the vet can do. If you use them you probably not going to get rid of the problem completely and may get them back.

Yes. She has worms. They will eat her intestines and cause bleeding and kill her eventually. She is not in pain, per se, but it makes her butt itch, same as it would with you if you had worms crawling out of your butt. I don't know the cost of medicine, but if you have a good vet who is sympathetic, he/she will allow you to make a payment or two after the treatment. The medicine itself is not usually expensive though. You should be able to get treatment and medicine for less than $100. Take her in quickly, as kittens are not as strong as adult cats.

she really isnt "sick" even though she has worms...she will be fine the vet will give you a medication for her and she will be rid of the worms in no time...the medication is rather cheap, but i dont know how much the actual vet will charge for the visit

Please get her to a vet or parasites can kill. If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet. If cost is a problem, the Humane Societies and SPCA's have vets where you can get discounted vet care. They do a good job, from my experiences. I take in strays now and then and get them shots and neutered and find them homes.
