I want to make frosting and some recipes call for "powdered" sugar. Is that the same as the regular sugar that you would put in coffee for example? and what would confectioners sugar be? Thanks!!

Powdered sugar and confectioner's sugar are the same thing. It is not the same as regular table sugar that you put into coffee. Powdered sugar is fine and well "powdery" a rare instance of the name exactly describing the product! You really can't substitute it but if you have a high quality blender you might be able to "powder" your sugar yourself. Seems like a lot of work to me so just run out and buy a box/bag of the powdered stuff--it's not expensive.

Powdered sugar is the same things as confectioner's sugar which is also the same as 10x sugar. I think it got the nickname powdered sugar because the sugar is so powder like. The granules are so finely ground unlike regular table sugar the kind you might put in coffee. This makes it easier to blend with things like Crisco or butter to make icing. If you were to use regular sugar the icing would not turn out and what you would be left with is a grainy butter/Crisco glob.

Powdered sugar, also known as confectioners sugar, is basically the same as the granulated sugar you would use in coffee. However, powdered sugar is much more fine than regular granulated sugar, its texture is much less coarse. Additionally, powdered sugar contains cornstarch. This is very helpful in making meringues, frosting or whipped cream, as the cornstarch acts as a stabilizer, and enables whatever you are making to maintain its volume for a longer period of time.
