I have a cat that is pregnant but I want the dad of the kitties to watch as the mom is giving birth so that he will know that they are his. Is it okay for him to be there? Will he get along with the kitties?

Most of these answers are correct. The male cat will have no interest in attending the birth, nor will it give him any indication of his paternity. It could also be dangerous to the mother or her kittens. Beyond that, there is a reason cats seek solitude to give birth. Your mother cat does not want him there. She doesn't want you there, either. Giving birth is not the family affair with cats as it is with humans. Make sure she has a dark, quiet, comfortable place to go. Check in on her once in a while, but give her her space. It's really about her, not about the daddy cat.

Lordy, these are cats we are talking about not people. First the male cat wouldn't understand that he is the father and wouldn't care less. Second it will upset the mother cat. All she wants privacy, a dark spot, peace and seclusion while giving birth. She will not want to be bothered with you or anything else. Let her do her job, she knows best and don't try to assist or interfere with the birth or the newborns. It could very well be the father cat, or even the mother cat would kill the babies if forced into this type of "idyllic human experience". Save it for your own children.

The first answer is right. A male cat is not going to be interested in a birth. He'd rather eat chicken livers. Sometimes male cats are dangerous, however I did have one male cat that did babysit his kittens when the mom got out and went to eat. He was totally strange anyway. lol.

BAD IDEA! Also don't be alarmed when the mother cat cleans up the litter, if you're not on hand at the time and one of the kittens is stillborn, she will eat it. This is normal practice in both cats and dogs. Try to be around at the time if it grosses you out.

Surely you jest .... cats are smart, but not so smart that males will recognise their own progeny. Similarly, once an entire male kitten reaches sexual maturity, it won't think "Hey, I smell female cat on heat but I mustn't go near her because she's my mum/sister". It will seek out said female cat on heat and mate.

Seriously, an entire male cat faced with a nursing female may well kill the kittens. Without kittens, she'll soon go back into heat and thus give him the opportunity to impregnate her.

Take her mattress to her under the mattress, depart it for a mutually as and then see if she would be waiting to apply it, if she does not decide for it then in basic terms placed an previous towel or blanket down the place she is and gently pass her and them onto it, she'll pass the kittens in a week or so besides, so in basic terms be waiting. attempt to no longer rigidity out, the kittens can not pass far at this degree and she or he would be waiting to look after them. interior the wild Mum cat continues to be along with her kittens for a week or greater and could no longer hunt she in basic terms specializes interior the little ones, take the food and water to her and placed the muddle tray under or next to the mattress. my mum cat does no longer depart the kittens in any respect and that i hand fed her and then replaced into waiting to place the food top next to her, grant her food often.

You are a total idiot if you think that he is going to "watch" and think they are "his". They are CATS, not people. He could care less, and might attack the mom or the kittens.
Keep him AWAY from the mom and kittens until they are OLDER!!!!
Man, there are too many people that think animals have human thoughts and emotions!!!!!!!!!

I don't think the father cat would watch, they don't understand like people do.

Why don't you give him a paternity test or something? I hate it when male cats just don't take care of their responsibilities...seriously, I don't think he will watch and if he does then I it will be his choice and he will not be traumatized.

I'm not sure, I had this one cat who ate one of her kittens...if you do decide to let him look its good if you stayed in the room as long as he's there
