My brother likes poodles, Littlest Pet Shop, and other things-that are mostly for girls. And whenever me and my dad tell him that, my mom chimes in saying "Anyone can play with them". And my brother ends up getting mad at my father and I. He doesn't play with cars-something my best friend at the time and I played with constantly. I'm a 15 year old female. I liked Power Rangers when I was younger. I never really played with barbies. And now that I'm older, I'm a cars fanatic. My grandmother often says I'm "not a girl". I tell her that just because I don't like skirts doesn't mean I'm not a girl. Now, I don't want my brother playing with things like Poodles and naming them "Princess". I've rarely ever seen him play with Power Rangers. He has them-but he doens't play with them. Is it normal for my 6 year old brother to like girl things-things I didn't really like as a kid?

Of course it's normal. Kids like to try out many different roles; some will stay, most won't. He's not you, so don't worry about it.

The so-called "girl things" and "boy things" are no longer real categories. Thankfully, most of us have outgrown the need for labels; that lets us widen our interests without worrying about what others might say. So just enjoy!

P.S. I'm a grandmother, too and I would never label my grandkids; each one is unique and very, very special to me!

She might in basic terms be a tomboy . The toys she performs with isn't unavoidably a hallmark of a difficulty. the placement along with her dad could have affected her inflicting her to be immature for her age. adulthood at that age is relative in any case. in case you sense something isn't top ask her mom how she is doing and notice what you're able to do to help in keeping along with her mom's reaction. you will possibly locate that her mom shares those concerns with you. be careful and tactful the way you attitude it, possibly communicate on your mom in the previous you communicate this with the lady's mom or enable your mom cope with it, in spite of everything she is her chum . it must be so straightforward as her mom no longer determining that habit is irrelevant and has in no way corrected her. now and back dad and mom can discern in any different case than what may be maximum high quality using fact of guilt. Very candy of you to difficulty regardless.

Yup, what they "should like" at that age is defined by socialization, not some innate desire for all little boys to acquire and desire tonka trucks. If that's what he sees, and his friends are alright with it, then that is what he likes right now and there is nothing wrong with it. I'm guessing when his friends get really into trucks and such, he will follow suit. But that's not because it is natural, it's because that's what society tells kids to like.

You can't really tell, he might grow out of it though. You and your family will just have to love and accept him no matter what he turns out to be.
