Midnight Wolf by Robert Bateman. The wolf takes you by surprise after looking at the trees and snow. It's a peaceful painting when first looking at it and then it grabs your attention with a wolf watching you from behind the trees. I've had friends that commented on the beautiful painting and then get taken aback when they see the wolf after a few more looks.

I do not have any one favorite painting. There are many types or styles of painting and I do have some I like more then others and some I like parts of.

John Singer Sargent's "Portrait of Madame X," which caused a huge scandal when first exhibited and almost ended the career of this master. It's also the subject of two relatively recent books, including STRAPLESS, which tells the whole story beginning to end in a very readable manner. See the picture and get the story here: http://jssgallery.org/Paintings/Madame_X.htm

I just love "Starry Night." I think partially because there is so much emotion and meaning there, but only if you look. And perhaps also because I know some things about Van Gogh, which makes it more interesting. And of course, it never hurts that there are good memories associated with viewing the painting.

James Rosenquist's "F1-11"
It's a huge painting (fills a large room) from the Pop Art movement of the early 60's. It's a collage of images from the era that just grabs the viewer. Below is a panel from it:

Claude Monet's Waterlilies, Green Reflection. I absolutely love the colors and the feeling of serenity the painting envokes. Actually, I love all of his waterlily paintings.

"Quiet Desperation" by Nicci Dov'erstet. You won't find it on the internet. It is in a private collection. It is of a dark forest with a dog following a small light. The details are powerful yet subtle and the depth perception is excellent.

Probably Nighthawks, by Edward Hopper. But I could say anything by Edward Hopper. He's by far my favourite one.
But if you could find me a painting by Prince, I'd certainly change my mind.
