My high school sweetheart and I have reunited. He popped the question December 25, 2006. We're looking at August 25th or sometime in September, but I don't know where to start. Is blue, black, and silver good colors for those months?

The first thing I would do is get a couple of "Brides' magazines", or go to the library and check out several books on the subject.
Over the years the "sacred rules" of weddings have been removed. This is YOUR day - it sounds like the dream come true situation, continue with that.
Dresses, flowers, colors, location, ritual, music - it's your call as a couple.
The most important thing about your wedding, aside from getting married of course, it to make it a day you can enjoy and remember forever. I've been to far too many weddings where the bride was visably stressed, and not enjoying the event.
Blessings to you and your groom on YOUR day and each day thereafter.

You'd probably want lighter colors for an August wedding and darker colors for September (assuming you live in the northern hemisphere). Also, lighter colors will keep you and your bridal party cooler in the heat than darker colors would. If you like blue, opt for a light blue and maybe gray (or keep the black if you want tradition for the groom/groomsmen). In the end though, it really doesn't matter. Pick the colors YOU like since it's you're wedding and I'm sure you want it to be beautiful. It won't be beautiful to you if you have to compromise on the colors.

I would start by 1) Figuring out what you'd like to do for the ceremony - church/secular, inside/outside, large/small, formal/informal, etc. 2) What would you consider doing for the reception - a restaurant, a country club, a yacht club, a beach, a friend's back yard? 3) What would be the amount you would consider spending? 4) Make a guest list by including everyone and their brother - then start trimming it down to a manageable size. With the approximate amount of people on hand, you can start calling some places and getting quotes from them.

It is your day and your call on colors. When I got married I used the internet to get a cheklist of things that I needed to do and it helped tremendously. That was several years ago so I don't remember the website. But one good website is The Knot.
