A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/XJCeT

By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.

To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

Basically you need to ask visitors before they come round to ignore it, don't look at him, don't talk to him, completely ignore him until he stops and gets down. then when they are ready they should come down to his level and talk to him, then if he jumps up when they are crouched down, they should stand up quick and turn away.
If the ignoring technique doesn't work, then you can try something else. if, when you are standing, the dog tries to jump up, turn away with your arms folded and ignore him. If you can notice the warning signs, then tell your dog to sit and if he does give him a treat.
If you do this consistently, i.e. everyone who he tries to jump at turns and ignores him, then he will learn he only gets attention when he is sitting quietly and not jumping.
I hope this helps you.

Have a little treat in your hand - when his jumps up say "down" firmly - when he/she gets down - lots of praise and give the treat. I use this for lots of commands like sit etc - keep the treat tight in your hand and hold it close to their nose so they know if they respond they get a treat. Some dogs respond well to treats and others to play so do what suits yours best. My cocker is three now and occasssionally he still jumps up - he is getting better but in the early years they are so excitable! Good luck.

I have a young lab too... and i know exactly what they do!! sometimes she is very calm and peaceful, but she changes her mood very quickly and starts to jump, bite, or anything she believes is a "game"... when your lab jumps at visitors, he gets very excited and he believes he is playing with them, I mean, they see everything like a game... maybe you should do what the first one said... but say (or shout) the word "no!!", so he learns thats not a game, and you should give him a reward if he learns to obey... this will keep him obeying. good luck!

the pup is after attention so the best way is to deny him. When he jumps up you should turn your back to him fold your arms and completely ignore him. When he fusses you from the floor, make a big fuss of him. If he starts to jump up.......back to ignoring him.

It usually doesn't take long for them to get use to it.

Same trick works if they won't come back when off the lead.

i tottally disagree with FireProoF, that is no way to train a dog, i have a 6 month old puppy, still aint got her out of that habit but id rather her do that then me knock my knee in her chest!! ive just been putting her out of the way when visiters come so she has time to calm down before she sees them also i shout when she does it and make the visiter ignore her till she is totally calm then i get them to great her and i give her a treat. she has got better but it takes time, puppys calm down once there older anyways, but trust me DONT knock your knee in its chest it could hurt her and will scare her and make her nervous around people, hope this helps, kerri

When the dog jumps up firmly say no. Dont say down as when you train your dog to lay down it will get confused. It will associate no with doing wrong and will stop what its doing to avoid further dismay.

first of all, she's excited, but when she jumps up, don't be afraid to reprimand her in front of guests. pull her down, and say DOWN! BAD DOG! note: DO NOT HIT YOUR DOG! IT ONLY TEACHES THEM TO BE FRIGHTENED OF YOU! THEY NEED TO LOVE AND RESPECT YOU! FEAR DOES NOT COME INTO THE PICTURE! also, warn your guests, and get them to step back quickly when she jumps up. sooner or later, she'll get the point. plus, it's never too early to start obedience classes!
