From a doctor...

First, congratulations on asking questions. Your doctor and nurse are interested in your health, and making sure that you stay as healthy as possible.

A 'physical' includes a history--a discussion about your life and prior medical conditions; a physical examination that begins with simple stuff like height and weight; and often some lab tests like a urine specimen.

Your comfort is a concern to us. We'll make sure to protect your modesty but more important your confidentiality. What you say to your doctors is personal and confidential. But we do need you to be honest and direct. We may ask some questions that will make you a little anxious--like have you been offered drugs at school or have you started having periods--but we ask these questions to help you and protect you. Again, your answers are confidential.

Often you'll wear a gown that covers you up--sort of. We need to examine you. We'll tell you what we're doing and why, and if you are uncomfortable with any of it, you need to tell us.

As for being naked, we understand that it may be uncomfortable to you to be undressed around people you don't know. Just remember that we medical professionals are not comparing you to anyone else or making judgements. We just want to make sure that you are developing normally and there are no problems that need to be addressed--that's our job. We hope to find you normal and healthy but we have to examine you to make sure that heart, lungs, abdomen (tummy) and so on are as healthy as we hope.

Feel free to ask questions before, during and after the examination and let us know how we can make the experience more pleasant.

There must be a female nurse in attendance if you have to remove your underwear. That is an absolute must. Don't be worried. They just want to make sure everything is fine with you. You shouldn't need anything "unusual" at your age (no examination involving your private parts, that is). You may be asked if you get your period yet. But don't be concerned. Just try to relax. If you are worried and have a male doctor, then ask your mom if you can see a female one in the future.

They may or may not have you take off your clothes. If they do they will give you a paper gown to cover yourself and a female nurse will be in the room with you if you have a male doctor to make sure nothing illegal is going on. You shouldn't have to remove your underwear as stated above. He or she may ask some uncomfortable questions. Your stomach, reflexes, ears, nose, mouth, head, heart, lungs, etc. will mainly be checked at your young age.

a physical is done to see if u are developing like u are supposed to. they check your weight and height, they check for muscle tone, and they check all functions of your body by testing your cranial nerves, they just want to see if u are normal there is no pain involved it will seem as if they didn't do anything special. you may be asked to strip down to your underwear but the should give you a paper gown to wear. it is really nothing

the main thing is that they want to be able to feel you all over without the interference of clothes on.

I don't mean feel you all over in a perverted way.
