Jack Russells don't have periods. They have seasons which last around 3 weeks, as do all breeds. She will bleed for around 10 days, then the discharge will lessen & go paler, this is the time she is most likely to be ready to mate. She will still be in season for around another 10 days. Because all b1tches are different it is safest to keep her away from all males for at least 3 weeks. The 1st day of the season is counted from the 1st day you see blood. Some b1tches are very fastidious & you have to keep a careful eye on them or you might miss the first few days.

A dog's heat cycle lasts for about 3 weeks and it happens about every 6 months. This will continue until you get the dog spayed.

If you get a female dog (a dam) you would benefit to learn the correct terminology. 1st dogs do not get periods (women do) the have heat cycles and these cycles (in ALL kinds of dogs) last for three weeks. Please do everybody a favor (especially yourself and your dam) and learn all about female dogs and be even smarter and get her spayed so that you won't have to worry about her heat cycles and a possible unwanted litter of puppies.
