Plantains (looks like a banana) would be easy. They are usually fried. My dad, who lived in Haiti for 2 years as a boy, used to slice them like potato chips, fry, and then sprinkle with sugar.

You can bring in a fresh plantain and some chips for class to try.

Well I would suggest some carnitas of some sort. It is a little different from regular tacos but close enough that people will still try it. Take a pork roast such as a pork shoulder and rub it with some taco seasoning or with chili powder, salt, garlic powder, oregano etc. Place the roast in a crock pot and cook until it is literally falling apart. Tear up the meat removing as much fat, and any bone and cartilage you may find. Bring the meat in the crock to school. Also bring soft taco shells, cheese, salsa, fresh cilantro that has been washed and dried. Make tacos with it and enjoy!
