Benefits are that students focus on studying rather than the latest fashions. It is also cheaper for the parents. the problems may be that the students want to be their individual person and the only way they know how to do that is by their clothes. However uniforms can also require students to become individual by their personality than their clothes.

Speaking from personal experiences as both a student and a teacher, I LOVE uniforms. I grew up in catholic school in the traditional plaid skirt or jumper and blouse. Other than the fact that I didnt' always sit like a "lady," I loved them. No one knew I wore hand-me-downs all the time. We all did! Starting a public middle school was a high-anxiety time because I didnt' have a budget for clothes and my older brother and sister's hand-me-downs became obvious. I am now a part-time college professor and a part-time substitute teacher in the local public school system. I have seen uniforms employed very successfully at the middle school level. These don't have to be the typical "catholic school" look. These uniforms were jeans and polo-shirts. They also included sweatshirts--yes even hoodies. The positive effects are still the same.

The benefits of having to wear uniforms would include:
-taking the focus off clothes and putting it onto education
-reducing bullying taunts and other forms of bullying on account of clothes
-the encouragement of conformity (which can be seen as a bad thing)
-less uniform code violations (or they are easier to pick out)
-less spending on clothes at the beginning of the school year
Problems:
-Conformity issues
At the middle school level, uniforms are a good idea because this is the age where things like fashion and bully ing begin to take root in the minds of young children. As middle shcoolers begin the adolescent phase, they feel akward and insecure-especially about what they wear. Uniforms are a good idea.

Well, I think one of the biggest problems with school uniforms is that it takes ANY form of individuality from a student. Now, I know school is a place to learn, but school is also a learning experience of living in the real world (where the entire population does not wear uniforms). If a person can't afford nice cloths, or doesn't like what other people wear, then making it in the real world will be VERY difficult if that bothers him/her.

The potential benefits the parents and school board think are that students cannot pick on each other for the brand of clothing or cost. The problem with that is it is not true because you can also buy school uniforms that are cheap and some that are costly. And plus I don't like it because it limits my individuality. And I feel way more comfortable learning in jeans and a hoodie.

Pros: No inappropriate clothing and no going home to change clothing, you don't have to think or worry about what you're wearing, less money spent on clothing, everyone looks the same so there can't be any clothes based bullying
Cons: No individuality and expressing could be done by students, everyone looks the same, no creativity allowed, makes school more boring, students will be unhappy and uninterested.

I think uniforms are a great idea.
Firstly, they minimize the "class" system that comes up when richer kids can afford nicer clothes - everyone is viewed as being the same with uniforms.
Secondly, it also calls issues such as improper clothing - skirts that are too short, pants that don't cover people's backsides, and by having uniforms, there are tighter regulations on this kind of thing.
Thirdly, when worn correctly, it doesn't look sloppy and kids look as though they have some sort of self-respect.
I think uniforms are great - for economics, for peer pressure, and for equality for all.

Problem:Just b-cuz they can't make rules that anyone in the Middles schools like Which cause some to rebel doesn't mean that people should have to wear school uniforms. Sure some may think they show school spirit but do they really think that S.U's (school Uniforms) are gonna stop kids from making changes so that they can look different

a benifit is that the familly will save money on not having to buy 2-3 sets of school uniform each term and the kids will feel more comfortable
the problem is bullying.... it will be more obvious who the poorer student are from the clothes they wear.. children are so cruel these days that if a chold os not wearing the new trends or trainers etc than they will get ridiculed for it.. resulting in emotional bullying.

I dont think kids should have to wear shool uniforms unless they have to go on a field trip because on field trips kids can get lost and uniforms are a way of keeping trac of who is with your school and who isnt. Kids shouldn't have to wear uniforms to school because it doesn't show their personality and what they are really like. You can tell a lot about a person by looking at what they wear.
