A CZ is a lab diamond. The only difference is that one was done naturally over time. We don't think anything of lab created rubies or sapphires, but mention CZ and everyone freaks.
They cannot be told apart unless a loupe is used.

If a CZ is all your fiance can afford, accept it & wear it with pride. It is the symbolism and not the money that should make the difference. I do suggest that you have it in a real gold setting. And not too large a carat. A 7 carat ring is hardly believeable if you're still in school.
I saw a ring from this place once; pretty nice.

Also your local jewelers should have CZs as well.

Yes. Natural diamonds have minor imperfections which a jeweler can see. Cubic zirconia appear too perfect. Also, I think there is something about the way they refract light...there is more sparkle or rainbow from a real diamond.

I really dont know! I wear a lot of bling myself and so far no one has been so rude as to call it fake. I know that I went to a pawn shop and I overheard the retailer telling a customer that his fiance would never know the difference. I could because the jewel itself wasn't cut correctly. I have also seen 'cloudy' jewels passed off as diamonds. I hope you find out so that I may also learn how!

Yes, There are many different way, but if you look at a CZ and a real one, It shines differently in the sun, and has a more natural look to it unlike CZ that usually looks fake.

Not unless you are trained. Take the piece in question to the mall and ask a jeweler to look at it and tell you what they think.

Not sure. But I know that diamonds can cut glass. Try that.

...only if you have a trained eye. but what's more important, i think, is the symbolism of a real diamond. real as opposed to look-alike...
