My hair colour is more brown than it is ginger but i still get all the ginger jokes everywhere i go. A while back i dyed my hair brown so it would stop and it did but i totally regreted it. I am back to my normal colour now so all the jokes are back. I do have a group of really close friends and a boyfriend who all love me for who i am and my hair colour but i just don't get what everyone else's problem with it is. It doesn't normally get to me but after going on for so long it is starting to get to me. All i have is one question why does having a shade of ginger hair make me different from people who have blonde hair or brunette hair when i am basically a brunette myself?

I am lucky enough to be the only one in the family who is a red head! The rest are all blondes and darks. How weird, huh? I seem to have more attention than most :P , but now can I say that? Has to be the whole package.
The abuse that red heads get must be due to jealously, perhaps because they are different and are more of an individual.
You are not different to anyone else, but you know the typical school mentality, they have to pick up on everything! Say braces for example, or glasses!
Just take it as jealously, they just wish they were you :-) Don't try to change your hair colour for the sake of pathetic school kids. Be yourself, and enjoy your lovely hair colour while you have it !

P.S, there is always my e-mail if you need some come back tips to those ginger jokes!

I dyed my hair red and I love it! I know what you mean though! I get the naff jokes all the while to. I think that dark brownie auburn hair colour is lovely. Did you know, that on a natural redhead, there are too many multi colours of red, that they cannot produce an exact colour match in a dye. That makes you unique. Its easy to be blonde or dark. Enjoy being that brown/ red and be proud of it.

It's actually a part-jealousy thing. When you think about it, different shades of brown and blonde can get so boring... to have red hair is the coolest thing you can imagine. 2,000 years ago being ginger was prized in many countries Boudacia (not sure of the spelling) was said to have had hair of flaming glory... I say all this, it doesn't stop me from taking the mick out of one of my mates who has ginger/brown hair. Always remember that it's said with love, and that changing your hair never quite works out how you want it to...

I have natural red hair and i love it,you should be proud of your hair colour not many people have red hair today most people are colouring there hair to get it that colour.I get compliments all the time for having really nice red hair and if you curl it,it looks so glamorous because we have a gorgeous tone that is more noticeable than all of the other hair colours.

hey, i always crack jokes to my friends with ginger hair, Im always cracking a joke about something, they know im only joking though, I suppose they must get sick of it at times! I actually love the colour, and I tell my mates that, and I think so many ginger girls are so pretty. Honestly dont let it worry you, im sure your hair is gorgeous, so just be proud of it, and the comments wont get to you, just laugh them off. If these people are deliberately being nasty, then they are not worth knowing, or worrying about it. Most people are just kidding you. My mate at work is ginger, he calls me geordie b**** (im from newcastle) so i call him ginger b******!!

My sister in law has auburn hair - reddish brown - it gets redder in the sunshine and browner in winter, naturally. She used to use a subtle chestnut tint when she had a legal job where she wore black a lot and felt the reddish hair looked wrong. Now she is in a different job she wears it naturally auburn but makes sure she wears autumnal colours that suit her colouring so that her hair & her look really good.

So many women tint their hair or have highlights now, not just to cover grey hair, that you should be able to pick a colour you feel happy with and not be bound by your natural colour - but do it for you, not for others.

Good luck!

Maybe you need to go the other way and dye it MORE red, one in the eye and all that. I agree with the answers that say it's a jealousy thing, if it meant nothing (if you meant nothing) to those saying this they would not care enough to comment.

I also think that society picks on minorities, don't take it personal.

You sound lovely, you obviously have many friends and are well loved; so what is the problem.

Maybe they're jealous. Seriously, ginger/red hair is amazingly awesome. My best friend is a ginger/red head and we all joke about it together(including her) Be proud of your hair, a lot of people would love to have it.

ginger hair is a lovely colour, and fellas find it sexy, i personally dont get why people are so childish about gingers, as i have 2 brothers who are proper red heads and they got the jokes big time, so much so that one bleaches his hair to hide the ginger. red heads are lucky thou they tend to hav lovely skin colour and can carry any colour they add to it, such as highlights. i know its hard to ignore it but, please try to them people who makes jokes, really aint worth the time of day.

Ginger is great. As stated above anyone who makes fun is either jealous or just want to be part of a crowd (which the leader of is jealous)

Be proud and be yourself ;)
