I am really needing to get out of the house(no,school doesn't really count),but she's not letting me go anywhere without her being right there with me.
I'm fourteen, and I just want to go hang out with my friends and relax, but she's all of a sudden freaking out about me going anywhere where she is not present.
Parents, what can I as a kid do to help her settle down and let me have my space? She thinks I hate her.

Ummmmm....you have a parent who doesn't want to see you hurt, beat up, raped, killed, OD on something, or get influenced my one of your stupid friends (yeah, I'll call them stupid because there's always one in a bunch).

Girl you have no idea, how lucky you are. My mom was the opposite. She was out partying and having a good time when I was a teen. And while I could have done anything I wanted, I wanted to be more than what she WAS.

Here's the bottom line. TALK to your mom. No yelling. Talk to her. Tell her that you understand she's worried about you. THANK her for this. But also tell her you'd like to hang out with your friends. Then the two of you set some rules together and agree to them. You'll let her know where you're going, who you'll be with, how long and a contact number IF she needs that (a good reason to get your own cell if you don't have one).

Sounds like she's getting a lot. But you're getting her blessing to go where ever you want if she has that info! Kewl, huh?

Then you two put this agreement in writing and you BOTH sign it.

It's your contract of trust. Neither one of you can break it.

Good luck.

Now go study!

Some parents have problems letting their kids grow up. Maybe she was wild as a teen and she's afraid that you'll do the same things. Or she's just one of those mom's that just has to control her kid, and now that you're getting older and having an opinion, she don't know what to do. Or maybe you have given her a reason in the past and now you're having to pay the consequences for that action now. The best thing I can think of is set down with her and have a calm and rational discussion about your feelings. And really listen to her reasons!

i totally understand cuz when i was your age it was the same! have her meet some of your friends so she knows who you are with and talk to her a lot, also show her she can trust you but keeping times if she wants you home early or whatever!
