I am going to give an abbreviated summary which I hope is of assistance. I grew up in Utah, and actually have living, breathing Mormons in my family, so should know. Just to answer the question before it arises, I do NOT consider myself a member of any organized religion. I find good in most any religion, but at the same time have yet to find one that doesn't have its drawbacks, as well. I don't particularly play well with the other kids in the sandbox, if you catch my drift, so choose to worship as I choose.
Anyway, the Latter Day Saint, or Mormon Church, is a RELIGION (not a cult by any definition of the word) that believes in the eternal strength and bonds of the family, and doing good towards their fellow man - just like many other religions on the face of this planet. There are many sites that can explain theri beliefs much better, but here are some of the nuts and bolts which hopefully will whet your appetite to learn more sometime in your future: It has a President whom members consider to be God's Prophet on Earth, and uses the Bible, The Pearl of Great Price, and The Book of Mormon as their words of guidance. "The Church", as it is called by members for the most part, is divided up territorially into Regions, which are broken down further into Stakes, then into Wards. Each has its own hierarchy, and everyone follows the "Prophet", to whom I previously alluded, and his "Council of Twelve". No need to go into further detail; it's all there to be discovered if you care to look.
Let's consider a major misconception FYI:
Mormons DO NOT believe in or practice plural marriage although there is a splinter group that does have that belief. This splinter group's members are NOT considered LDS, and it is much more of a cult than the "real" Mormons. Check out the news on a man by the name of Warren Jeffs if you want to have an idea of what a true cult is. His little cult is really on the rocks right now, and I detest the way it basically rapes young girls and enslaves innocent children and women.... Truly , don't get them mixed up with the real LDS religion, because they are ideologically light years apart from one another!
There is of course much more information than I could ever provide here, so if you are truly interested in an interesting but maligned religion simply check out the literature which others answering this question have already listed such as LDS.org to get a feel for the truth of these people.
They are for the most part very good, caring CHRISTIAN people who take their religion seriously. They, too, strive to make their world a better place, just like most of society, and are very much maligned for no other reason than sheer ignorance of those who don't care to do any research about them.
No, they are not perfect, but most of them try to get there, and is there anything wrong with that pursuit?. Certainly there are many of them that try to get others to join, but it is just because they want to share something which they feel can help others - even though at times they can seem boorish. However, there are many other boorish people out there, as well, aren't there? Even this answer is, I'm afraid! Therefore, I'm going to quit so you can take the time to look up the truth about the Mormons yourselves if you want! Shalom! :-)

Kolob is the position God is living, and we stay right here on earth when we die interior the Spirit international, it particularly is al round us. Kolob is gently noted interior the scriptures, and is taken usually as an emblem or a acceptance for the actual homestead of God. Regardless, Kolob's value isn't a large component of Mormon Doctrine, because we bypass to Temples that are literal residences of the Lord.

The basics of the Mormon religion are this: (this is highly condensed so I have enough space and I am sure I am mutilating the story)
In the 1800's (?) a confused 15 year old boy named Jospeh Smith prayed to God about which religion was the true religion. He was visited by an angel and shown that none of them were. He was led to tablets hidden in the mountains by an ancient American civilization and given the revalation from God to translate these tablets. This is the book of Mormon. It describes the history of the ancient american people that came from Isreal and a visit by a spirit Jesus after his ressurection to the ancient americas, "the other fold" as described in the bible. This led to the formation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Their Articles of Faith are:
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and aordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
