...like shadowing the figures on the screen. Almost like a halo. Only in green. The TV gave us no prior symptoms.

Watched it the night before no problems, turned it on in the morning. It pop on and off and has been like this ever since.

Any hope, worth repairing?

Picture tube is going out. 8 yrs. of service was pretty good. Get a new TV.

8 years old, and like cancer, one day the symptons just pop up. Time for a new one. TIP: when you buy your next TV get one with PIP (Picture in Picture). Reason you can suft the net while watching one program.

if it made a "popping" noise then it sounds like the shadowmask within the tube is buckling-this would explain the distorted image. this may not be the case but if it is then it's a new tube and for what that would cost you may as well buy a new tv set.

In addition to the answer about the PIP make sure it is a High Definition TV.

And or your green gun is getting weak and it cant track as well.
