Cuba is officially atheist (just like communist USSR and communist China). Also like those states, religion has not been suppressed completely.
The most prominent religion is Catholicism. In 1991, restrictions on religion were relaxed.
As far as what will happen when Fidel dies (which seems to be in the not-so-distant future), it is hard to say. But with his brother in power, it is not likely that the U.S. will open trade to the island country.
It is also possible, however, that a revolution would ensue following the Cuban leader's death. I have heard of many Miami Cubans preparing for the time when Fidel is no longer around.

Cubans are Catholics.
When Fidel Castro will pass away, Cuba might gradually mend its relations with the USA and roll back to a its lost democratic way of life.

Interestingly enough, even though communism rejects religion as "the opiate of the masses," most Latin American leftists are devout Catholics, Hugo Chavez included.

i think they are probably catholics. What happens depends on the USA. If they open up for trade, the place will get trashed and turned in to Disneyland within a decade.

If you will notice, all the old leaders have been "kicking off" so, there will be a period of unrest until it is established, who is the new king of the castle.
