I'm just confused. I do fear God, and love him, but I think I fear him more. But if you love someone or something, you're not supposed to be afraid, are you?

The fear of God does not mean it in that way. It means to fear his wrath. For example, his punishments for when you do wrong in Exodus 20:18-20 Moses says God punishes us so we will fear His wrath to keep us from sinning.

In Islam we are suppose to fear God and at the same time love Him and have hope in him

Someone who just fears God without having hope/love in him doesnt recognise His true nature - being merciful and forgiving

However someone who just loves has hope in God and doesnt fear him then they will do whatever they like: commit any sin - trangress any of God' boundaries - it is like mocking God

The best way is to really love God- because if you love someone you really fear doing anything that displeases them

We have a lot of emotions for each person in our lives. Its good that you love God.You love him cause hes a loving God,but you shouldnt fear him.You should try to live your life the best you know how."Doing unto others" and all that stuff.Maybe you have fear confused with respect. You want to do good in his eyes and you fear not doing that.Dont be afraid.God loves you no matter what.

God doesn't want you to be scared of Him- after all He wants us to address Him as "Father". Fear of the Lord is recognition of God's majesty and power over us as Creator, and helps us not to sin- but it doesn't mean being scared of God.

Fear is another word for respect in the bible not in real life

You can't love and fear... you are right... if you love someone (even a god) you should not be afraid. It is people who try to scare you, not a diety.

this is why i am Pagan. i do not believe that any god that wants you to fear him, is worth worshiping. even the Morrigan (a Death Goddess) will treat you fairly when you pass through her realm if you did not worship her in life. but then again, Death in my belief system is not really an "evil" thing, it is more of a new beginning than an end.

Do you love your boyfriend/husband?
Do you have fear of doing things that will make them unhappy?
The fear of God is the fear of displeasing him, not the morbid dread of torture, or immolation.
