They want a small dog like 10-15 pounds. Minimal to no sheding. Doesnt need a big yard, easy to train, and of course loving and a good house dog.

Terriers are nice dogs.....not too big also. Go online with them to find pix of a dog they might like. I wish them luck finding a new family member!

Your grandparents need to look at a lot of dogs, pictures or in person, and decide what they like. Then research that dog to find out if it would fit their lifestyle. By asking people here, all you're going to hear is everyone selling their breed of dog which would not necessarily be good for your grandparents.

Why not suggest that they go to a shelter and adopt a young adult, training will already be done (or started) and it might be a lot more manageable for them than a young puppy which would be very high energy and require a lot of work in the beginning.

POMERANIAN! they are the best companions. Their soo loving, small and cant stand being alone. They make the best house dogs too and when trained well they always let you know when they want to go bathroom. Theres minimal shedding to no shedding throughout the seasons. Dont let the pomeranian eat any cat food, it will shed tons of hair. Pomeranians do go through a shedding stage right before summer, just brush their hair often through that stage and everything will be peachy.

Take them to the pound and let a dog pick them. They would probably really prefer a young dog but not a puppy.

Miniature Daschund comes to mind. They come in long hair, short hair, and wire-haired. Short hair would be best for no shedding. They are small, loving, and tend to be very loyal to their owners. They are also small enough that if you didn't want to turn them outside to do their duty, they can be house trained using the dog litter products available.

a rat terrior is a good choice. i have a toy fox terrior and its the exact same just the rat terrior has longer hair...... but a terrior is easily trained and very fun to have.... especially for elderly folks.....

the big yard part... it would be a good idea, and they will get hooked..... but if its taught to stay near you, you can walk through the woods without a collar and then they can call it when they are ready....

terriors are minimal sheders and a great companion for elder folkers!

good luck!

i have a Rottweiler/German Shepard. he is named cujo.whenever some1 pulls into our driveway cujo barks they leave and never come back.a lot of people think that they r so mean. well that is not really the answer. it depends on how the owners treat the puppy. if ur grandparents have any other house animals get the dog when it's a puppy.
i hope that helped u.

Chihuahua is the best. L/c doon't shed as much as the s/c. Feed high quality dog food and it cuts down on the shedding.
