This like, 6'4, firl at QFC told me i should join club volleyball ( a club that u play volleyball in) and i didnt know her so all she knew was that i was tall (5'9) but ive never played voleyball before. Do you think that if lessons over the summer and go to this 3 day volleyball camp i could try out for the JV team and make it in the fall (its january 21'st the tryouts are august 18th or something.) Do you think that my height will help me learn better and that ill be ready?

Not necessarily. Im short for my age and I am pretty good at volleyball. It can help for blocking and spiking but i am a pretty good spiker. You can learn volleyball in a short amount of time and if you try you will be ready. Good Luck!

Height has nothing to do with anything.

Does being tall give you an advantage? Yes, it does. But if you have no athletic ability, then height is nothing. I am 5'9", and I play harder and better than some of the girls on my league that are taller. I've also been blocked by girls shorter than I am - the tall girls throw a block where I expect it, and I hit around it. The short girls are just hoping to get up and touch the ball, and you never know where they're going to be.

Tall is a plus - but skill and talent far outweigh the height thing.

well, i am pretty tall for my age too, and i had never played volleyball before either, i went to a camp every week of the summer and got better. then i made my school team. I am now doing club. I think your height will definetly help you, and the people who choose the players will definetly pay special attention to you at tryouts, so I would practice as much as you can until the tryouts, and you will probebly have a big chance of making it. but some of it depends on how good the other girls at your school are, but i would make it a goal! :)

I think height helps but that doesn't mean if your short you suck. You need to practice a lot to be good a volleyball, and not just hitting the ball over the net. Last summer I was in a highschool volleyball camp, and each day for three hours each day for five days, we ran a mile, did 100 sit ups, practiced jusmps, used medicine balls, jumprope for 5 minutes strait. I lost probebly 10 punds by the end of the week! It is a sport that you have to be phisically fit, and have determination.

volleyball is all about technique, I am 6'5" and played for 4 years in high school. I was the tallest on my team and co-captian. and although i account alot of it on my height, but the truth of the matter is, its about who coaches you, you have to know how to control yourself and know when to be power and then when to use finess. There are many SHORT players who are more well rounded than taller players are simply because they have the fundamentals.

Your height will help you get on the team, teams always needs Middles. the skills will come with time, as long as you are willing to learn the basics and not to just try and kill the ball daily.

good luck! its a great sports. especailly at your height.

When a person on Team 'a' sends the ball over the net to Team 'b's side and team 'b' is unable to successful control the 2nd hit before the ball lands on the ground, it is considered a kill. The ball does not have to be hit hard, or even hit, for that matter. A person could tip, pass, or set the ball over the net, and if it lands on the floor of the opposing team, it is a kill. It doesn't have to go straight to the floor, it can actually be hit 3 times by the opposing team; the key is that the contacts are not controlled... If the opposing team gains control of the ball by the 2nd contact, it is NOT considered a kill.

being tall doesnt automatically mean you are good at volleyball, but it defintely gives you an advantage against shorter players....I think that if you were trained how to play and practiced you could easily make the JV team....but remember that just because your tall doesnt mean you will be better than everyone that is trying out

It does help you spike and stuff, but you need to be semi good. Go to the camp and try out if you dont make it it wont matter cuz youve never even wanted to before but if you do congrats, Its a ton of fun.

height does not matter at all! if ur a beginner, and want to make a team, it's not gonna happen. i've always made my teams and that's cuz i have experience. the really tall girls that are beginners have no experience. it takes years and months to be a great vball player.
