They expect you to have a designated driver!
Around here, the designated driver gets free soda all night (or juice or whatever).

Why do jails have bars, when the inmates very well know they are not supposed to leave?

Parking lots at bars: because not all the bus lines are running when the bars close.

Actually, beyond the obvous answer most already gave (concept of designated drivers), not everyone goes to a bar to get intoxicated...it would be much cheaper to do so at home, with a bottle picked up at Safeway. It is more of a social thing, a place where it is worth it to pay four to ten times the cost of a beer or drink, so you can meet new people, hang out with old ones, dance, socialize with co-workers or friends, and make sure you are sober enough to drive before leaving. This can be done by spacing your drinks, switching to non-alcoholic beverages the last hour or two there, or whatever it takes to keep you under the legal limit once behind the wheel. Or, if you are an experienced drunk, you might even make it home without a wreck or side-trip to the drunk tank--some know how to compensate somewhat for their impairment.

But the thing to remember is that bars were around longer than cars have been (once on the back of a horse, without other instructions, it will make a bee-line home, to where it knows the hay-trough is!), and drinking & driving laws did not start cropping up until the late 40's.

So the reality is, bar owners are going to have places for their patrons to store their cars--because they already know they will be using them to get there--while they patronize the establishment, and will leave it up to the customers to obey whatever laws apply to them, and not the bartender.

Get real, people. If most people had a designated driver, they would be home wohhooing them, instead of hanging out at the bar. The designated driver thing is a cool concept, BUT, most people hang out at bars because they are home alone, and thus, lonely. They have parking lots, because ya gotta have somewhere to park that car while you get wasted. If you work, you are GONNA have to pay income tax. It sucks, but it's part of life. If you go out, you are gonna get that dewie. It sucks, but it's part of life. To pretend that the driver program works, is unrealistic. So when you get popped, you pay your sh&*...get it reduced to reckless drivin, and go on with life....

LMAO!!!! good question. Hahahaha! I haven't any thought until eventually it is meant to be a apartment like lot which you would be able to get your taxi abode. What puzzles me extra, is why there arent any law enforcement officers outdoors waiting to arrest human beings for bein inebriated in public. Technically they are while they go out the bar, staggering?? I propose in the event that they are gonna nail human beings for smokin in a bar, then why dont they do this. it is not any diverse.
