Ok... this is an odd one... for a couple of years now I've developed a rash from drinking. I used to have really bad acne and when my face flushes it shows up all the old scars - which makes it even more embarrasing. The thing is, I don't get this when I drink beer but everything else seems to cause it to happen. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it (other than just drink beer for the rest of my life?!)

Just to clarify, no matter what I drink, this happens - but vodka and drinks with vodka in seem to be the worst. Its so embarrasing I hate it and just want it to stop.

Beer has a lower concentration of alcohol. Per drink, you'll get the same amount of alcohol, but a heavy hand with liquor might give you a bit more straight-up alcohol than a foamy beer. Plus, you have to drink beer a little slower than mixed drinks unless you enjoy massive belches and that bloated, gassy feeling in your gut.

Alcohol flush is a common problem--I have it, if I drink. Which I don't, not anymore. But I have a lot of side effects with alcohol and one is the awful flushing, red cheeks, skin feels hot...I hated it.

I've never heard of a cure, other than not drinking. If you flush even when you don't drink and you have lots of little broken capillaries, get checked for rosacea.

But no alcohol=no alcohol flush. Some drinks may be better or worse, but the only sure way not to get the flush is not to drink.

Are you just drinking? Or do you eat something also ? It seems it may be a reaction of some sort. Are you drinking the same kind of alcohol or have you tryed other things that don't have the same ingredients in it, like grapes etc?

is drinking that important to you? you could just stop drinking, you know and the problem would cease to be...unless ofcourse you are an alcoholic...then you might have some serious issues about not drinking anymore...look into that. perhaps learn something of yourself you may not want to know...but we all gotta start somewhere....

My Wife got that way when she drank Sherry. Do you know what type of alcohol causes that to happen.
