I have to renew my passport in April and it will cost me €75, I 'm Irish. Is the government imposing just another form of tax?? How much do they cost in other countries??

75 euro is alot when compared to how much it costs in the US. 75 euro is almost 100 dollars US. For me to get my passport renewed it would cost $67, not cheap but still less than in Ireland. Sorry about that, it's all up to the government to regulate things like passports and the Irish government must think it's necessary to charge that much.

Passport and pictures US$110 ($97 for passport, $10-15 for pictures). Make sure you do this 3 or more months before you go. Currently, due to high demand, passports in the US are taking up to 10 weeks to be processed. A passport may be obtained faster if you pay for expedited service ($60).

Last time I renewed my passport it was £20.

The money is spent on running our embassies around the world, to help us if we get into trouble abroad.

i have no idea but they are so expensive, you almost have to plan that as a major part of your travel expenses..
