I always knew I was going to be in the military, but when I joined, my motivation was college. At first I thought "Oh my god, what did I get myself in to" but now I appreciate the challenges I've faced, it's made me a stronger person and after being to other countries, I appreciate my freedom much more, especially as a woman. I've realized that there are so many things I can do, I also realized that I can be away from my family and still survive. I've always tried to make the best out of my military experience no matter how hard it got and because of that, I've done very well here, and although I don't intend to make it a career (I'll be out in July of this year) it was a good experience for me.

I joined the Air Force in 1980 looking for a direction. I did not come from a poor family. My father was a Dr so $ was never an issue growing up. I tried college for 1 year and I just felt I wanted something more exciting than sitting in class and drinking beer every night as what does go on in college. Once I got in the Air Force I never looked back and loved it all 23 years. It gives a person a chance to grow up, learn a skill, get an education, and a chance for an early life retirement. I made some great financial decisions thru out my career and now here I sit 45 years old retired, medical coverage for life, a pension all my life and all I run is a remote control on the TV, God life is good!!

War Sucks...as any Vet will tell you... We do our duty based on the needs not soley on politics.

The Country and People of Iraq, need US as much as Kuwait needed us in 1991, the students in Central America in the 90s...The Military goes where it is most needed.
I joined in 1967 ( when it wasn't fashionable) and have always been proud of my service..knowing I did the right thing.

I have nothing better to do with my life therefore tomorrow I will be heading to recruiting office for the Army. I was just gone to get my college degree first but now I'm so bored with life in general that I have to do something.

I just don't know if women will then talk to me if I have bald head.

I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. It gave me direction and discipline. I traveled all over the South Pacific. And there was also all the neat stuff with guns & grenades! Semper Fi!
