The way I have listened from doctors - central vision goes real bad but the peripheral vision usually much better. They also said that one should NOT go completely blind from Stargardts disease. However, the person will very likely be considered LEGALLY BLIND.

Once legally blind classification is given by a low vision specialist, the person becomes eligible for many many benefits. Contact the Commission for the Blind or equivalent offices to get help and directions.

No, Stargardts disease does not lead to complete blindness but it does lead to extreme loss of vision. In fact, the peripheral vision will always remain; it is the central vision that is affected. However, visual care for low vision will enable someone with Stargardts disease to live a fairly normal life.

If you'd like more info, just add a comment to the details and I will then search for a website that will explain it in more detail and, hopefully, in layman's terms.
