will depend on level of his shyness, if he is extremely shy he may competely lose it round you, and be incoherent. If only slightly shy, he should appear to be trying to have a conversation with you at every opportunity, just not making a very good job of it!. You should try and encourage him, by starting conversations, invite him out to something you can do that is not too intimate, and see how things go from there. If you like him then once the awkwardness is gone, things will become easier, If they dont then it will be time to move on. But at least you will know you tried, and it just was not meant to be.

I guess you just know. Like, thats the same with one of my friends, she LOVES him and he always sits with us at lunch; she asked him out by sending him an e-mail and he hasnt said anything about it but he still acts the same around her. He broke up with his girlfriend a few months ago and one of his friends moms told him not to go out til hes 16, so we're thinking hes scared to. Yep. But its obvious he has to like her at least a 'little'
