Do you have a copy of Goodfellas? or the godfather, or pretty much any gangster film? Check out those fellas, and take notes.
Sometimes, the term "businessman' is used tongue in cheek in this context, like on the Simpsons, and the "Legitimate Businessmans Club" run by fat tony.

dress smartly in your normal clothes, if its fancy dress you just need a prop or two. It seems as if everyone has the same idea, the gangster/mafia guy, so go with the stereotype but make it easy, just borrow or hire a violin case....the suggestion is all you need.(and less messy than a horses head!)
