When I die, the vital essence of me (soul, if you like) will go to the Summerlands. I may have the option of coming back to try to work on the life lessons that I didn't do so well on this time.
I believe that there is a reckoning for the wrong things I have done. I may have to try again and again to get things right. Whatever the lesson may be, I have to learn it.

i'm neither Atheist or Pagan. i'm an Agnostic so i admit that i do not know what happens (if anything) after the body becomes defunct. however, it gives me pleasure to imagine that everyone (Atheists included) has a personal heaven that they create with Love. heaven being the "place" where all that one Loves accumulates so everyone who Loves has a heaven.

I think for Atheists, a great American songwriter summed it up best...
Turn out the lights
The party's over
They say that
All good things must end

ONCE AGAIN, atheists are not deists. Pagans are. Stop grouping us together.
When you die, your brain - the organ that makes you what you are - stops functioning. YOU no longer exist, in any form. You are dead and gone. Your body rots or burns. There is no soul, no spirit, no afterlife. Death is the end, and you'd have to be seriously delusional to convince yourself that you get to continue existing after that. Wishful thinking.

I believe that for Christians, 'to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord'.
For the rest, they go somewhere else.
Where is debatable.

I believe that if you are a good person you get to relax, but, if you are a bad person you get to come back and try again, and again, and again, until you get it right.
