Tell him/her how much they mean to you whether just as a friend or as bf/gf. Send an ecard for no special reason expressing your care/love for this person. Send a poem. Get an artist to do their portrait. Assemble photos in a scrapbook from times you spent together. Just be creative.

I would try something 'out there.' Do something that takes lots of time to make, instead of just going to the store and buying some random piece of chocolate or gift. A suggestion would be for a bf/gf, you could buy a seed of a rose or other pretty flower. Show your friend the seed, and plant it, saying that this is your love and may it grow into a beautiful flower. Eventually, when the rose blossoms, give them it on a special date.
Just put a lot of thought into it, and just something you know they'll like.

i show my husband that i love him by sending him text messages saying just to let u no that i love u and i was thinking about you or sometimes when i pack his lunch i slip a note in his lunch box and say when ur eating ur sandwitch know that someone u married made these with her own to hands or sometimes a little sticky note on his computer sayin i just want u to no i was thinking about you and i love u or even n the dash of his sterring wheel of his car

one thing i've done recently is while my bf was at work i took a dry erase marker and wrote little love notes all over our full length mirror in our bedroom. he came home and really really appreciated it. i also write little things up in paint on his computer and make them the background when he's gone. the one now says i miss my baby love your boo. he kept it so he must have liked it.
