I had this once a few years ago. I was convinced that there was a thunder storm until I realised noone else was seeing the lightning and I hadn't heard any thunder!
After seeing my GP, they sent me down to the local hospital for further checks and diagnosed a migraine. You can get them with or without the headache apparently.
Definitely get it checked out as the retinal detachment thing doesn't sound good! If they send you to the hospital, take some sunglasses (even if its a dull day) as they put drops in my eye to dilate the pupils and it took four hours to wear off! I would get someone else to drive you.
Hope everything is ok!

It sounds like there is a chance that you have a retinal detachement or retinal tear that is working on becoming a detachment, especially since you state you recent had eye trauma. It is very important that you reports to an ER or eye care professional as soon as you can. Small tears and holes can be fixed with no damage to your vision, if it tears enough to include your macula which is the part of your eye that sees the clear central vision, you have less of a chance of saving your vision. Please seek medical attantion. Good luck!

Actually I think the flashing light thing is an indication that you are prone to having a retina detach. That is generally hereditary, so has anybody else in you family had that happen? Also, do you ever see spots sort of floating across your eye?

It sounds almost like the migraine's I use to get except for the pain. Could be something serious and should talk to your doctor about it.

something is not right go to the doctor and tell him what is going on and have him to run a cat scan to make sure all is well, this is the wrong place to find your answer even a doctor will have to diagnose the problem there is none of us capable of telling you the doctor needs to run tests before he can tell you....good luck...

See a doctor as soon as possible. It's probably nothing serious, but you should have it checked out in case it's a neurological problem.
