how can I go about finding out information on an antique cedar chest, ie. age, date of manfacturer, etc?

I know it is a Lane, pattern #2444, "New Lane Tilt top AWMA Tilt lid" is stapled on it.

I can tell you my experience. I have my mothers Lane cedar chest given to her in 1925, I contacted Lane to have it refinished. The people that own Lane , were not interested in anything made that long ago. They just own the name and sell new stuff under it.
