-k- I know this is kind of obvious but have you tried your Mother? She knows at least "who" he is and if they had a relationship she may very well know some family or close friends of his that could aide you on your way...all of these are free. If not Mom, then what about Grandparents (her parents) they may know him too.
My parents were divorced before I turned 1. My sister and mom always spoke negatively about him until I actually started asking questions. I've always had a relationship with his parents as well so when I was ready they just arranged for him to come over one day while I was visiting. It may be more difficult for you but you never know until you try. Mom and dad have since reconciled to being friends - weird after 25 years of not having him around.
Good luck

The only way to find the majority of the information you want is through paying for a people search $35+ or background check using his name & last known address (they go back years) and/or his social security numbers. If he was one of the ones who signed you away for adoption, that may be on the paperwork. Regardless, please rethink this. Unless you are trying to find out about family history diseases, etc. you may be wasting your time. (If) He gave you up and has not bothered to try to find you all these years, he has obviously moved on with his life. Focus your heart and your money on your real future. You are born to one family, perhaps raised by another, but the one you create out of friendship and love with family & friends is the one that sustains you.

I know if you know his name and know about places he lived you can look in public records. My dad had a daughter from a previous marriage I had never met and he did'nt know where she was and then he died. I put all my efforts into finding her. I searched the web in public records, talked to my dad's family for hints. I found her a few months ago for free and we talk now on the phone alot and plan to have a visit with her in a few months. It is very exciting to find a lost loved one. When you find him tell him you love him and you care and ask questions and get to know him and I know you can find him I found my sister. Good Luck in the search.
