Hi everyone ,i have a nearly 3 month old cavalier king charles called oliver,The question i am asking is we are tellimg him off alot ,just saying no to alot of the things he is doing cause obviously hes gotta learn ,we are giving him loads of cuddles and naps on our laps because we love him to bits, but sometimes he shys away from us ,although in the mornings he goes crazy wanting us to pick him up ,hes only like that first thing in the morning ,do you think its because we are telling him off ,we only shout no and he does as he is told ,or is it cause he is getting more confidence and dont want picked up all the time ,he will sit near you but if you try and pick him up he runs ,and how long will he sleep for roughly ,i leave him for a couple of hours to go to the gym in the morning ,he goes in his crate he seems ok never had a problem with him being in there but i know these kind of dogs dont like to be left long ,is this ok ,

It´s nice to hear that you love your little dog bet he´s really cute. All dog´s are clever they know when they are bad a bit like children they push you to see how far they can go , and yes you are doing the right thing by giving him lot´s of cuddle´s . Try giving your dog a little treat ,just a small bit of a dog biscuit when he has done something good like when you tell him to sit , or when he has been to the toilet in the right place. he might shy away from you because he think´s the next word´s that are coming out of your mouth will be NO . & your dog love´s you after all he think´s your his mum. good luck

Your shouting is probably scaring him. Try rewarding him for behavior you like, redirecting behavior you don't like and small time outs for out of control behavior.

I've had several Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in classes and they very well with Positive reinforcement training. Take him to Puppy Kindergarten to learn some effective ways of correcting him, while strengthening the bond. Plus, it will help him learn to trust you.

Emotion in dogs is a hotly debated issue. I'm sure in some fashion your dog loves you. There is an excellent book out that discusses the areas of dog emotion: For The Love of a Dog: Understanding Emotion in You and Your Best Friend" by Dr. Patricia McConnell.

Of course! He's a dog and they have a strong instinct to know weither or not you love him. And he's only 3 month's old. I mean when I first got my Golden Retriever(now 2 in a half) she was VERY shy! She would hide under pillows, and run away from me. So for awhile I thought she didn't love me either but now she can't stay away from me! She sleeps with me and everything! All I have to say is that he'll love you no matter what! So Good Luck!

PEACE OUT,

Yep, BUT you may also want to start telling him GOOD BOY when he does as he is told. And you already know show him lots of attention, like hugs and petting him. When he does something good as he has been told give him a treat. And if he doesn't want to be picked up as often as you'd like, Oh well it isn't that big of a thing to be concerned with. Just make sure NO ONE is hitting him or abusing him. This could be a reason why he shys away. Make sure that this DOES NOT happen. Good luck.

http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/programs/dog-whisperer.html
Here is a site you can go to to see what time to watch an awesome show. It's called the dog whisperer. it comes on the national geographic channel fridays at 8.
Cesar Millan is the dog whisperer and he hasbooks out explaining how to understand dog behavior, and how to be the pack leader, and be your dog's pet owner with more of an instinct of a dogs. His moto is: I rehablitate dogs, and train people!" And on his show(which is soo cool) it shows ALL kinds of breeds with any kind of phobia.. or anxiety problem, or they chase thier tail, or the mailman. Basically people call him over to have him fix thier dogs, yet when he gets there it turns out- it's all in the way the owners phsycollogy and body language is towards thier dog- he brings to thier attention the way they are being seen by thier dog, by the (owners) body language.. if it is in a submissive or nercous state, a dog will immidiatly pick that up and become dominant over you. if your body language is in a calm assertive state, a dog will FIRST notice that when u walk into the room and be submissive. In a dog "pack" thats the way it works. A dog does not say "hi, my name is Oliver..I am happy" Nope, a dog sniffs first, then by instinct checks your body language, and thats thier way of communication.Becasue as Cesar says a dog is first insitinctual, then emotional, then spiritual. Us humans are the other way around- but he can tell you how to communicate with your dog, on it's level so that both you and your dog get the right communication transferred that needs to be transferred.
Anyway, go to that site, AND start watching his show- I'm telling you it is absolutely helpful and interesting as hell!
at this site it will say: visit our dog whisperer website, and click there..it shows you all kinds of shows, and what they are like, theres great info for you watching them!!

I think he is just filled with energy in the morning. He will be happy all day but as the day goes on he will not be quite as full of vigour as early on. That is to say he is a morning person.

hi,you sound like a totally normal owner, trust me dogs get left alone for ALOT longer than thatand they still love their owners more than ever, all dogs sometimes just dont feel like getting picked up,they will still love you!just give them praise when its needed and your dog should be a normal happy one so dont worry!

Dogs can sense things humans can not. If you honestly feel love for that animal, he will feel it.
So to answer your question yes he does know.
