If you can afford it, try going to an all women gym like Curves or something. It’s a much less intimidating atmosphere. If you can't then just use the taunts as motivation to work harder and be more dedicated to your diet and exercise. Think of how no one will ever laugh at you when you achieve your goal. When people used to laugh at me in school because of my mental and physical handicap, I just worked that much harder at my studies and sports and ended up surpassing them all. You can do the same thing. Just think, one day you'll be better looking than all of them. Who will be laughing then? Just stay strong and keep doing what you're doing. Put the present out of mind and stay focused on your goal. You WILL be thin one day. Never lose sight of that!

Gah, I know what it's like to be ridiculed for your weight. I've since gotten down to a healthy weight, but in sixth grade people would make horrible jokes and ask me things like if I was pregnant. Grr...I'm still resentful of that but anyway...
I think that to quit would just be letting these idiots get the best of you. What right do they have to judge? They don't even know you or why you're there. And if you're trying to be more physically active and be good to your body then you have every right to be there.

Some people have feeble minds. Don't worry about them.
In terms of losing weight, try the G.I. diet because it involves eating healthy and gradual weight loss. The key is to avoid foods that cause your body to produce too much insulin; i.e., ones with a high G.I. index. It is very easy to follow and does not involve making your feel hungry, tired or whatever. The downside is that the weight loss takes time.

Ignore the people that you think are ridiculing you. You are working on losing weight and toning your body. You are doing more than most people and should be admired for it, or at the least left alone. If someone actually says something to you that is demeaning, report them to the YMCA director. Otherwise, exercise proudly and don't sweat the small stuff.

Why would you care what "anyone" thinks about you? Do you put that much of your self-worth in what others think of you? I say, put Anthony Robbins words into action and "move on"!!! Give yourself a big huge thumbs-up for getting out and "moving your body"............ that's more than most can say (including myself!).
Keep it up................. YOU will be the one to reap the benefits.

Been there myself.
I hate the skinny little buggers who look at you like you dont belong because you are not a size to and live off water.
I have the problem of looking at skinny people like they are not suppose to be there, I am constantly thinking how much they suck and how much I dont like them... this of course does not help totaly but for a bit it helps you to take back control of the staring.. because you started it....
Please keep in mind that I am not mentaly stable and any idea I give is a result of my disfuntional brain.:)

I would definitely confront those people and let them know what they are doing is not ok. Hey at least you are at the Y trying to get back into shape. When you confront them be loud about it. I can almost guarantee they will stop immediately. Say this - I may be fat but your ugly and I am here to lose the weight.
Wow I just saw Jack's reply and that is the nicest answer I have seen yet today!

You have all the right to be there as it's none of their business to mock you as you are doing for you, just as much they are doing it for themselves.
Whatever you do don't let them get the best of you, be strong and ignore them. What business is of them to be looking at someone whom is trying to get fit and be healthy, anyway!
Maybe you could move to another area where there won't be anyone watching you.

Could it be in your head? You have every right to be there and to get healthy. That is what gyms are for! Talk to one of the trainers at the gym for advice.
