I've been selling digital cameras for over a year so I get a lot of time and knowledge with em. It all depends on what u want it for. For a small point and shoot put in your pocket, I recommend a canon elf. For a far zoom bulkier I'd say a panasonic. Just something to keep in mind is for cameras now, nikon is really slow, sonys take fine photos but they do not last, all panasonics come with real image stablization and most have rechargeble batteries and fastest click to picture time, as well as a leica lense, but they have trouble with picture noise. Kodak is good if you're a grandma. Really easy. Thats about it though. HP meh. Olympus are good for outdoorsy people. They are durable, and one of them can be dropped 5 feet on ground and 10 feet in water and be fine. If you just want a cheap camera, go with a samsung over a kodak or one of the nikon L series. I deal with cameras all the time, and worked in 3 electronic stores selling them, and most all the camera salespeople buy a canon. I actually dunno of any of them who didn't. I have the A630 and I love it, minus the fact that it has no image stablization. IS is really important if you want more chances of clear photos. Well I hope this helped. If you have any specific questions just ask I'd be more than happy to help. if you are stuck between cameras, check out www.dpreview.com under buyers guide and side by side. read the reviews and see what negative things people said about each camera you re interested in. maybe they can scare you towards another. Good luck!

I would recommend a Canon camera. But not their entry level or cheapest ones.
If you want an ultra compact point & shoot camera, look at one of the popular SD models (also known as Ixus or Elph).
SD600, SD700 IS, SD900 Ti...but not the SD800 IS or SD40 (Ixus i7).
Or if you want a camera with full manual controls (aperture & shutter priority), look at either the A630 or A640.
I am confident you will be very happy with the photo quality, ease of use and features these cameras offer.

Go with Perta-au's suggestion. Even though I love my Sony I feel spend A Bit more and buy a Canon. In general they are quality and you'd get your biggest bang for your bucks.
Check out Website sdpreview.com for reviews of what people think of many brands and model numbers. It also shows some of the best prices a camera can be had in different stores.
