what your new muslim name will be? Like the basketball player Kareem Abdul Jabbar used to Lew Alcindor, how did they determine what his new name was? I am curious

I changed my name because my name was somthing that was forbidden in Islam. My old name was Sherry and Sherry is a wine and all forms of alcohol are forbidded in Islam. I would of kept my name if it was not forbidden. When I went to choose my new name I just looked though a list of names and picked one I liked. Its kind of like naming your child. It was actually kind of fun. My family still calls me Sherry, but everyone else calls me by my new name. I think it fits me so well now.

If someone has a name that has a Muslim equivalent and they want to keep that same name, then it's very easy. But I think most people who change their names just pick a name they like and change it to that.

It's simple, you just choose the name you like.
But if you want to keep the name relatively same then you just pick the equivalent name for example:

Joseph - Yusuf
Moses - Musa
Abraham - Ebrahim

Sarah - Saara
Miriam - Mariam
Mary or Mariah - Maariyah

Hope that helps.
